Saw Boneyard and did not think much of it. Mel is getting a low budget, that these look up to par with after school specials, but I have no problem with that. Old school type movies.

When a mysterious force begins to disrupt their big summer fun, Noah and his friends team up with a retired police detective to embark on a monstrous adventure to save their island.

Another Alien: Romulus trailer dropped yesterday and like the previous one they gave way too much away.  Pre-sales must really not be doing as well as they expected.

I am not as geared up for this one as the first. The first Joker was very subversive in what it had to say. Not sure this one does that at all. Not getting any real message. Not a fan of Gaga, but she’s very talented. She actually does live performance jazz shows making her one of the few pop musicians that can cross over into real, actual music. Her acting seems to be getting better, too, but I can’t handle any imagery or spirit cooking stuff, ever.
Imo, they are hoping fans will just hand them over another billion. While skeptical, the music could work very well, if it has anything to say about the system or society. It’s a shame because Todd Phillips came so close with the first one with that messaging of the neglected working man who dreams of being in comedy.

“Joker: Folie À Deux” finds Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that’s always been inside him.

From acclaimed writer/director/producer Todd Phillips comes “Joker: Folie À Deux,” the much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning “Joker,” which earned more than $1 billion at the global box office and remains the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. The new film stars Joaquin Phoenix once again in his Oscar-winning dual role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, opposite Oscar winner Lady Gaga (“A Star Is Born”).

The film also stars Oscar nominees Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Catherine Keener (“Get Out,” “Capote”), alongside Zazie Beetz, reprising her role from “Joker.”

Phillips, who was nominated for Oscars for directing, writing and producing “Joker,” directed “Joker: Folie À Deux” from a screenplay by fellow Oscar nominee Scott Silver & Phillips, based on characters from DC. The film was produced by Phillips, Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Joseph Garner. Lady Gaga served as music consultant. The film’s executive producers are Michael E. Uslan, Georgia Kacandes, Silver, Mark Friedberg and Jason Ruder.

Working with Phillips behind the camera are his team from “Joker,” including Oscar-nominated director of photography Lawrence Sher, production designer Mark Friedberg, Oscar-nominated editor Jeff Groth, and composer Hildur Guđnadóttir, who won the Oscar for her work on the first film. New to the team is Oscar-nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips (“Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood,” “Don’t Worry Darling”). Ruder is the film’s executive music producer and the music supervisors are Randall Poster and George Drakoulias. Casting is by Francine Maisler (the “Dune” films, “Challengers”).

@comicsgate : You son of a…., here I come to the forums to post the new Joker 2 trailer and you beat me to it. Utter bastard you are!!! lol

I am kind of with you about the movie, when I heard about it I was thinking “Why?”. And then I heard it was a partial musical, and I HATE musicals. But, man does the cinematography look fantastic, as does the acting.

Well, I’ll just post this then. It looks great.

I agree with both of you. I enjoyed the first Joker film but I got confused as to why we ended up with a second film when it worked just fine as a stand alone film. I’m still going to watch it as I like Lady Gaga as a artist so I’m tolerable with that at least. Not sure with her acting abilities as I’ve never seen her act in anything but I think she might be able to pull it off. Margot Robbie is still my number one Harley though lol.

As for the idea of it being a musical, it doesn’t bother me as I’m a fan of musicals and I think jazz numbers can work well with this film. I think Lady Gaga did do a jazz version of ‘Pokerface’ some years back and she does have a good voice for jazz IMO. I believe Lana Del Rey is another one who can also do jazz numbers pretty well.

@DarthVengeant See, I like your Death Metal mentality. It’s something I’ll bring up to AnimeMan as well. The Geeks don’t take stuff from anyone and stand up for themselves more than any other demographic group. As for the trailer, I’m all too happy when anyone beats me to the punch, but I’m not on any social media anymore. When they closed me off from Youtube, I figured that was it, so apart from some esoteric and fringe sites, I don’t get to post and comment, so I might be on here more than most.

I really don’t mind if people say to me, hey, FOAD. There’s a lot of miscommunication and we all are on edge from being betrayed over and over in every institution and at every level.

Side note, but that Secret Service lady, the way she spoke, reminds almost exactly of Leslye Headland. Kimberly Cheatle reminds me of Leslye Headland is every way, like thought and mentality and speaks in those cult terms like inclusion and diversity. Imagine wanting to gender swap Dan Bongino and you bring in, like a Rosie O’Donnel figure or Lena Dunham type goblin woman.

    @DragonLady
I am NOT into this new Joker movie much, but when you make a billion, it’s almost a crime if you don’t try to tap the well again to see if the market is there for the money. The thing is, I want an antiwoke message. That was something the first Joker gave us, with that ending scene involving the Talk Show host, it reminded me of The Vengeful One video by Disturbed.
It implied certain things about the media and we know that Late Night tells the same jokes, has the same writers and the same political persuasion, as they are stuffed shirts and talking heads hitting us with disinfo and misinfo and outright falsehoods about all of reality.

The first Joker movie was brilliant in that way. The more I think about it, the more it stands out much higher than people like Sorkin or Jeff Daniels who punched down at the youth. Joker punched up at the media moguls. You never see that. Gets my respect. I do NOT see that message in the sequel, so I have no interest. Joker and Winter Solider both had anti Deep State subliminal messages. Someone back in the day, I think Chris Gore, but can’t recall, said the original Ghostbusters had Libertarian themes.

    This needs more visibility…

Appreciate Angel Studious for trying. Idealistic.

From the white guys who brought you “What Is A Woman?” comes “Am I Racist?” Matt Walsh goes deep undercover in the world of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Prepare to be shocked by how far race hustlers will go and how much further Matt Walsh will go to expose the grift, uncovering absurdities that will leave you laughing. “Am I Racist?” It’s not just a documentary, it’s a social experiment. Only in theaters September 13th, 2024.

While I admire their courage Matt and DW are on shaky ground with that one, especially so close to the election.

    Another promising one from A24.

I like the concept of that jail one. Big fan of gospel music from the soul. Matt Walsh is just good because he’s so deadpan.

Not a fan of Bob Dylan at all, but his name is a brand and an era. Heard he was a total fraud, still, it’s a role. It’s a shame we don’t get one about Woody Guthrie. Maybe it’s already been done. One thing I like is the role suits Timothy and the movie looks small. Like low budget. I think maybe they should have gone a Holdovers route.

A COMPLETE UNKNOWN Trailer (2024) Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, James Mangold, Bob Dylan biopic

    #322057

The first time I heard about Bob Dylan was when he showed up on the USA for Africa “We are the World” song back in the 80s. Let’s just say his performance stood out like a sore thumb on that track.

As for the movie Timothée Chalamet seems well cast. He’s a good actor, hope it does well for him.

Parts of this one channels the Evil Dead (1981). I consider that to be #2 on my all time greatest Horror Movies list, with  The Exorcist (1973) being #1.

Why does this guy look like Liam Neeson.

Have not watched this show yet. I really liked Severance and this seems like that and also, like Pantheon. No one out there that I know has talked about this show.
Robbie Amell has such a look. It’s so odd to me that he kind of looks like Jennifer Connely would be his sister.

From Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks and Recreation) comes Upload, a new sci-fi comedy. In the near future, people who are near death can be “uploaded” into virtual reality environments. Cash-strapped Nora works customer service for the luxurious “Lakeview” digital afterlife. When party-boy/coder Nathan’s car crashes, his girlfriend uploads him into Nora’s VR world.

    Premise

In 2033, humans can “upload” themselves into a virtual afterlife of their choosing. When computer programmer Nathan Brown dies prematurely, he is uploaded to the very expensive Lakeview, but then finds himself under the thumb of his possessive, still-living girlfriend Ingrid. As Nathan adjusts to the pros and cons of digital heaven, he bonds with Nora, his living customer service rep. Nora struggles with the pressures of her job, her dying father who does not want to be uploaded, and her growing feelings for Nathan while slowly coming to believe that Nathan was murdered.
