Beyond did talk a bit about Physical vs Digital last week too. I stopped watching that show after the whole Tlou2 debacle and they were getting Drukman on etc. I was just watching Unlocked/GameScoop and some other IGN shows after that, (who, to my knowledge have not talked about the ‘trade offs’ until now). I just watched last weeks Beyond show after watching this weeks yesterday and they did talk about it prior to presales going up

There are some people who work at these places who just love to try look down on the rest of us though. Proper idiots who think they have some sort of power and influence. Just try to treat everyone else, us the fans, as some sort of ist/phobe. As though we are all inferior and stupid. Them types dont want to talk or debate anything, they just want to insult and cause arguments.

The only games I’ve ever bought digitally are smaller indie titles, never anything full priced. Having physical copies of games isn’t just a nostalgia thing, it’s just better all the way around in the long run. It’s just like Playstation to charge less for the digital-only console to encourage people to go that route. The sad thing is I’m thinking that a lot of consumers are going to go for that marketing play because they just think that the idea is “cool”, or because the price is more appealing. There are a lot of young naive gamers out there nowadays and the industry knows it all too well. This generation of gamers has been groomed buy these major companies over the past few years to just accept their crooked business practices and take whatever crumbs these companies feel generous enough to doll out. Going digital-only will mean that these companies will ultimately control and own everything – they will be in 100% control of our gaming experience at all times. If they feel like randomly inputting ads at any given moment during our private offline gaming experience, they could do it. If, for whatever reason, they feel like suddenly  reclaiming ‘our’ gaming purchase at any given point after we’ve spent [$70!!!!!!] bucks on it, and not refund our money they could do it. If they decide to make it mandatory that we agree to some insane or weird terms of service before we can even start playing a video game and if we refuse we can’t play it, they could do it! This crap has already gone beyond absurd.

I have a Switch, gaming PC, and a PS4. PS4 is the only console I’ll never purchase full price for a video game. Switch and PC on the other hand, I’ll wait for a deal or two to happen, and (in the Switch’s case) if I can’t find the game in stores, then I give in and purchase digitally.

So there are some good points with digital, but I’m more of a physical copy guy. I DLed Animal Crossing back in march because I couldn’t find it in stores at the time. I know the same is gonna be the case for Super Mario 3D All-Stars, so I’m already prepared with the strong outcome of purchasing it digitally. And yes, I did purchase some stuff in Super Kirby Clash because I wanted a bigger gem apple tree.
