Tagged: Indie Games, Smells Like A Mushroom
Alright guys, this is my 1st ever (unpaid) review copy I ever accepted.
They did not pay me or control the content or reaction. This is all me. Ok, I think that should be enough lol So Smells Like A Mushroom had been on my watch list on the Playstation 5 for a while. It looked unique enough to get my attention. So when I got a chance to play the game & review it, I had to do it. I am pleased to announce that the game is actually very good. The studio behind it is Red Limb Studio. I don’t know how big the team is but they did a great job.
So here are my thoughts.
Opening mission is a bit rough on the eyes with the severe over saturation & color watches. It was rough. It was hard to see what was going on. But I kept playing. That’s it right now for the negative. I have been playing this for about 4hrs according to my playstation record…it does not feel like it. In a good way.
The graphics are very basic but it is unique enough to stand out. I wouldn’t say they look generic but they are funny to look at, pleasant.
The controls are spot on. Your character will stop when you release the analogue stick, no sliding or extra steps which is crucial for the later parts of the video for the platforming. Man that was tough, not because I could not control my guy but because it wanted you to do it a specific way. I got it on my 4th attempt.
The music is chill & BIG when required, like the Boss fight. Man, that boss fight. We’ll get there.
The writing is legitimately funny, it is quirky & weird at times but not cringe from the 4hrs I have played, I laughed a bunch of times. The game’s description say “Boomer Humor” This is like playing a game from like 10 years ago & I loved it.
Now that boss battle in the thumbnail, it the 2nd official boss & man was it insane, look at it (thumbnail) ! Lasers everywhere, enemies everywhere, explosions everywhere…SO MUCH GOING ON!!! But you know what? I beat him in 1 try. I did almost die a few times but, when you realize the enemies he spawns are not there to just kill you but to provide much needed ammo & health refills, you start putting 2 & 2 together. Make sure you take out the large crystals especially in his 3rd phase as they will kill you quickly. Yes the boss has 3 phases & each 1 requires a different strategy & he has completely different attack patterns.
I am telling you, the game is excellent especially for an indie game. It is available on Steam & Playstation & should be under 20$ I highly recommend Smells Like A Mushroom & I give it an 8/10, you know irate things fairly.
Thanks for watching & hopefully I get some more offers.
