In the Japanese versions of Nier Replicant and Nier Gestalt in 2010 , Kaine was designed as a character with some elements that some would see as pretty fuckin’ woke. I don’t consider it super woke because it serves the story and character but I believe some of you would.
They removed it from the western version because they thought the market wouldn’t like it.
I would be surprised if they kept this censorship in the Replicant remake.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they started using this element as a marketing tool, to be honest.
I’m always in the “Fuck Censorship” camp and was not okay with the change when I learned about it.
I’ll be happy to see the correct version of that character presented but imagine they’ll be a few pretty pissed people in this community, if they play it, not knowing.
Any wokeness around the character, Kaine, is not a game going woke. It’s an element that was always meant to be there.
I’m not going into specifics because spoilers but you could look it up if you wanted to.
To me, Nier Gestalt is one of the best games on the PS3 and I cant wait to try to the Replicant version.

Intent is what is important, nowadays in the west it’s usually done to be woke and to push an agenda, but in japan and especially back then it was done because the creators thought it would make for a good character and story, not to push an agenda.

That’s my definition but some people have a definition that’s slightly extreme in my eyes.

I just bought this game a couple months ago for PS3. I only played the first hour or so. I hope it’s not woke

The western release of the PS3 version of Gestalt censored it.
I don’t consider it woke, period, but, for some people, the sheer idea of showing certain people in a positive light is woke.
I would be very surprised if the PS4 version of Replicant kept that censorship.
Quite frankly, it shouldn’t have been censored as it serves the character and the story.
Censorship, whether it’s left wing or right wing is trash.

If just the inclusion/presence of something rainbow-related makes your anti-woke senses trigger and worries you, you might be a tad too sensitive. The full fledged lore of the game and the incoming enhanced decision is definitely not for you if that is the case. Yoko Taro’s works are not “woke” the way western civilization tries to be “woke”. It’s still about acceptance and the person, not identity politics.

Still haven’t gotten over that final boss fight in Drakengard 3. That was some bullshit. haha
I gave up and looked the ending up on the internet. haha
