So I historically never cared for Voyager. I did not hate it, just did not like it. However, I am watching it now and enjoying it. At this point being Trek starved, it’s a pretty glorious play through so far. It’s like opening a time capsule since I am watching these episodes for the first time. It reminds me of younger days and better times.
If anyone has not watched Voyager I recommend it. It’s no TNG or DS9 but it’s at least solidly Star Trek.
Once I finish it I am going to hit up B5.
While I enjoyed the premise for the show, and they getting to encounter/interact with strange new worlds/aliens, the over use of the BORG IMO diminished the impact the BORG has over all of Star Trek.
I loved Voyager. I just binged watched in on Netflix not long ago. Back when Trek was still Trek.
I think the “over use” of Borg in the show helped it and gave you more incite into the Borg.
Well like I mentioned I don’t think Voyager is DS9 or TNG but it’s keeping my attention and I am enjoying it. It is nostalgic because it is at least Trek from the heyday. And I refuse to watch the depressing trash fires that are new Trek.
The Borg in TNG was over-used and not used practically to give you a the feeling of fear an anxiety. From the 4th time they met the Bork in “I Borg” where “Hugh” showed humanity and compassion a true friendship it was over and done for me. It showed they could be converted back and made friendly if not good members of the Federation in time.
The lost the fear facto of the BORG…. You want a good scare and antagonist, Bruce aka The Shark from JAWS, that music to this day gives people a since of danger. Bruce was used very sparingly and when he was it was to scare the living hell out of people and it worked. In VOYAGER they got it and used it that way, to bad the damage was already done by TNG.
I would actually loved to see in Voyager more of species 8472 and an alliance over time built up with them to a climatic battle. But what we got was a rushed ending. Even the Ending of Voyager leaves a kinda sour taste in my mouth, It needed to be more of the welcome home and for us to seen them at least in a time jump a few years later.
I will still like voyage and will watch it over TNG, especially now after what TNG actors have done to the show with this new one.
The BORG never scared me and I like their use and or frequency of use in all the ST shows. I never had an issue with it. Things don’t really scare me because, well, I like scary things. I love Voyager and TNG, and I absolutely love Enterprise. I’d follow Archer into hell.
I never liked DS9 much until Worf was on there all the time (because I love Klingons) and the later Cardassian stuff. The Bajoran’s are a wimpy, pacifistic, annoying group of characters, so that always put me off with DS9. The only Bajoran I liked was Ensign Ro.
I am older, in my late 40’s. So, a grew up with all these shows in original broadcast.
I am in your age range. So I too saw all of these. I would wait weekly for TNG episodes.
I always liked the Bajorans for the reasons you did not like them. I always took them to be a stand-in for Christianity. Which I identify with so I guess that is why I liked them. But I loved the DS9 plots. It was almost like space opera with the drama.
But hey, different strokes for different folks ! ;)
DS9 was a space opera, they actually stole the format from B5. There is a video out there and it wish i had it saved that went into detail on it. Bajorans I swear were based off the French of WW2 era. Warf makes everything better :)
As far as Star Trek shows go Voyager was OK but lost its way in the last two seasons when it focused heavily on either Seven on Nine, the Doctor or both.
So I am a few seasons in now. And while I find some of the episodes to be VERY similar to some TNG episodes I still am enjoying watching. I have noticed they reused some of the same actors from TNG and DS9. I actually like that. It’s like seeing old friends kinda.
Anyways, glad I gave Voyager another chance.
