Chinese State Media Warns of ‘Severe’ Military Measures if Taiwan Office in U.S. Changes Name

In China on Sunday, a state-run media outlet warned of “severe” military and economic consequences against Taiwan if Washington allows the self-ruled island to change the name of its representative office in the U.S.

Why?  An independent country can do as they please.

The Global Times referred to a Financial Times report from Friday saying that President Joe Biden’s administration is considering allowing the office to change its name from the “Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office” (TECRO) to the “Taiwan Representative Office.”

I see nothing wrong with that.

The Chinese paper warned such a change would seriously anger Beijing and provoke a “severe” military and economic response:

“If the U.S. and the Taiwan island change the names, they are suspected of touching the red line of China’s Anti-Secession Law, and the Chinese mainland will have to take severe economic and military measures to combat the arrogance of the U.S. and the island of Taiwan. At that time, the mainland should impose severe economic sanctions on the island and even carry out an economic blockade on the island, depending on the circumstances.”

    OH now I see.

“The name change provides the Chinese mainland with sufficient reason to strengthen our sovereign claim over the island of Taiwan. It is anticipated that the Taiwan army will not dare to stop the PLA fighter jets from flying over the island. If the Taiwan side dares open fire, the Chinese mainland will not hesitate to give ‘Taiwan independence’ forces a decisive and destructive blow.”

The CCP will use this as an excuse to take military action verses the independent nation of Taiwan!

“The U.S. has been engaging in phrase mongering, hoping that the ‘competition’ between China and the U.S. will not evolve into a ‘conflict.’ We have to tell them clearly with our actions that ‘competition’ with the Chinese mainland on the Taiwan question is bound to turn into a serious conflict, and there is absolutely no room for maneuver,” the state-run media outlet wrote.

And the CCP has been using blackmail, intimidation, coercion, etc. to spread its regimes’ tyrannical ways.

Maybe it is time the WEST cuts its economic ties with the CCP.  Tell them their cheaply produced goods and the use of their factories to make western products is OVER too.

But then, we have sleepy dementia joe’s admin.

By the time he exits his basement, the CCP might be able to take over the independent democratic nation as quickly as did the terrorist take over Afghanistan.

The ‘China Fantasy’ is dying a public death

U.S. attitudes toward China have changed dramatically in the last few years — and for the better. Spurred by the Communist Party’s cover-up of the COVID-19 pandemic, human rights abuses, and arrogant bellicosity abroad, people are waking up to this regime’s true nature. In an age of hyper-partisanship, that recognition extends across party lines.

Well it is about time, IMO.

A February 2021 Pew Research Center survey found that nearly nine-in-ten U.S. adults consider China to be “a competitor or enemy, rather than a partner.” And 48% think that “limiting China’s power and influence should be a top foreign policy priority for the United States” — up from 32% in 2018. 67% of Americans hold a negative view of China — up from 46% two years prior.

And with the recent threats of the CCP to the free democratic nation of Taiwan, those numbers will only go up.

Indeed, outside of the Beltway and Wall Street, many people have been souring on China for years. Now policymakers are catching up.

    About bloody time!

In a Sept. 24, 2021, interview, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo told the Wall Street Journal that China “doesn’t play by the rules” of international trade and engages in intellectual theft. CIA Director Bill Burns recently announced the formation of a dedicated China mission center to deal with “the most important geopolitical threat [that] we face in the 21st century.”

Once again, this has been happening for over a decade.  I am so surprised they finally admitted it.

The shift in tone shows how much has changed. Not long ago, the dominant view of press and policymakers alike was that China could be a partner in maintaining the Western-led liberal order.

A communist is a communist is a communist.

The took your money, your jobs, your industrial and manufacturing might, and now they are coming for your freedoms.

…”many in Washington believed that China’s Communist Party leadership intended to transform the country’s political system as well as its economic system.” Many Western political, financial, and intellectual elites continued to hold this view long after the CCP’s brutal 1989 crackdown at Tiananmen Square.

    What drugs were you on?

They did just enough to keep their population under control.  And now with a social security score and national security laws in place, they can take down anyone at any time that threatens their tyrannical regime.

    They took down Hong Kong.

They want to take down Taiwan.

Their silk road initiative is taking down countries who took the quick money and are now facing the consequences of their short sightedness.

The US and the free world MUST take a stand against the CCP’s expansionistic/colonialism.

Otherwise we can expect Soviet/Nazism 2.0 that is 1000% worse.

    With word of war in the news;

Be it Russian troops in Kazakhstan (to help keep in place the current regime), to the threat of Russian Troops massing on Ukraine’s border, to the CCP regime drive to subjugate Taiwan.

Will all this happen during the CCP’s Olympics or just after (with maybe some participants’ stay extended indefinitely with a “positive” test, etc)?

And this is all happening with the current admin, and most likely because of the current admin, that they think this is the best time to act.

This is what weak (none) leadership creates, IMO.
