I haven’t seen this movie, and after learning about some of the content in it, such has some things with Splinter, I’ve no plan to.

Even the trailers for this movie hadn’t been all that appealing to me.

A few months ago, I read many of the IDW Turtles comics, at least up until some of the more recent, more woke ones. Up to then, though, I pretty well liked the series.

To my mind, the Turtles are best when they are mostly serious. That doesn’t mean their can’t be humor, fun, and even goofiness, but at their core the Turtles are fighters, warriors, they carry weapons and know how to use them.

The trailer for this new movie had the turtles acting less like teens or young men, with all the good and bad that can come with that, and more like pre-teen children. The goofiness of the Turtles in the trailer was off-putting.

A few weeks ago, I rewatched the TMNT animated movie from the mid-00s. I think it still holds up well. The movie has it’s fun and goofy moments, but the Turtles are still treated in a serious manner. And Splinter wasn’t dating a bug.

Hollywood is not going to churn out anything but propaganda at this point.  This has been the case since 2010 and as time has gone on it’s only gotten worse.  I give them zero chances on anything and the only time I even glance at something they make is if I notice people (who are not crazy ideologs) rave about it.  I really think the way forward is through independent or small studio stuff.  And there is a massive vacuum in the market for actual entertainment and I expect this to fuel the rise of new endeavors not of Hollywood.
