This new Korean sci-fi show is the best thing I have seen in a good while. I came here expecting to see at least one thread about it, but nothing, so figured I’d leave this here. Won’t go into details, but this is exceptional sci-fi, and non-woke too. The characters are written with flaws and virtues, and distributed equally to both sexes. More importantly, they behave and communicate how normal people would as well. It would be fair to say that it’s a bit of a slow burn, so it may not be for everyone, but it had no trouble holding my attention throughout each episode.

Often too, with TV shows, usually only the first, and last, couple of episodes are important, with the rest being filler. But each episode feels as important as the one that came before it. The story builds on each episode masterfully, and the intrigue and tension escalates wonderfully. And I am known to tap out of TV shows and movies very quickly, sometimes only after five minutes, but I was immersed in this one, from start to finish. The general story is admittedly cliche, in some respects, but is told in a way as to feel fresh, and the characters help to anchor the story. These are not characters that you want to die, you want them to live. High praise for the writers, and the actors.

Honestly, I’m sitting here trying to think of something to criticize it for, but I’m struggling. I guess the ending was a bit vague, though I thought it was great, and one characters fate lingered a bit too long. Though these are the tiniest of nitpicks. I have seen one review that thought it meandered for too long, but I didn’t share that feeling. I thought Squid Game was overhyped (much like Afterlife) but this one deserves all the hype. Watch it.

It was an enjoyable watch. I watched it all right when it was released. I watch a lot of asian shows.

My only issue is the main character, played by the beautiful Bae Doona, seemed to never smile or have any hint of emotion. It was annoying sometimes.
