Yeah right; WHAT pandemic??? If that was the case, why are people flocking to see ‘No Way Home’ then??? Simple; there’s no woke nonsense in it like there was with the other MCU films that were released this year.
I just disagree with this. It’s obvious all movies have been hit with the pandemic restrictions. No one could predict NWH was not gonna be woke. And how on earth is Shang Chi woke? I think that the wokeness is like a very minimal part of the equation here.
I would just say that Spidey pulls in a lot more audience than any other character. Eternals and Shang Chi are small names so they don’t catch people’s attention. I know people who avoid going to movie theaters during the pandemic but went to see NWH because it’s just that big that you have to see it. Like come on, it’s an MCU movie, the most popular superhero in the world, the last movie in his trilogy, all the hype and speculation with the multiverse leading to even people who hate anything that came after Tobey wanna see it because of him, a few Garfield Spidey fans probably and so on. This was marketed as the movie to tie up 3 generations of spidermen and wrap up a story. It is obvious it’s gonna shatter record despite the pandemic. If you think it shattered records because it wasn’t woke, I say you’re just delusional.
Captain Marvel, woke, sold good. Endgame had the female hero scene which made some basement dwellers lose their minds and shit themselves, sold good. Dr Strange, Ant-Man, Thor 1 and 2, Captain America all considered non woke, didn’t sell as good. Can we draw conclusions here? No we cannot.
