I see everyday how popular culture and often leftist culture especially pushes this theory that whatever makes you feel good is valid and should be your goal. As someone whom is older, let me tell you not only is that absolutely incorrect that it is the inverse of the truth. My overall point here is this thought process or way of life is not only wrong (and sinful in my mind) but harmful to anyone who practices it. It is a recipe for long term unhappiness.
Sure, you can do things that make you feel good or happy for 5mins but then what? You have to do something else for 5mins and repeat and so on. This is where addiction comes from. This is where a lot of mental health stuff comes from in my opinion as well.
The absence of God causes a lot of this as I see it but that aside everyone should practice “delayed gratification”. That’s doing some stuff you might not like today so you can be happy tomorrow and beyond.
You spend the time and effort to till the field and plant today so you can eat the rest of the season. Life is like this as a whole. You must work your life like a field, tending to it like a garden so that it produces for you later on and in the long term.
I think today must people are in such a way they equate happiness to just the lack of misery. But real contentment is out there and it can be had for the long term. But you have to work at it by making the right decisions today.
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” –Proverbs 17:22
