So, I woke up this morning, and Az is still going with a massive stream of him messing around in Valheim.
Gotta say, it looks pretty decent for an early access game. I’d be lying if I wasn’t thinking about it, but after my experiences in Conan: Exiles I’m not doing a game like this by myself again. Trying to get some active guildies interested, but one of them is hooked on Sea of Thieves right now, so she’s not gonna do it.
This game definitely looks like it would be more fun with a few people for the co-op.
Definitely considering this one, cuz when something is good, I like to get in on the ground floor.
I’ve sunk 62 hours into it. GET IT! As early access games goes, these developers are doing a great job! Go read the reviews on steam. Yes, co-op is essential for the late game, but it can be played solo casually in the early game. Its actually calming. One of the best thing about the game is that your character, stats, and your on hand inventory transfer with you from server to server. I’ve played with a few friends on a few different servers. Sometimes I’ll jump back onto my personal server to grab some random supplies they need and reload into their game. It’s a lot of fun.
2 things to take note of… 1) The game is grindy… If you enjoyed minecraft, then you’ll probably enjoy this. 2) It’s early access, so bugs can happen. When you die, a gravestone marker will appear with your inventory still there. You just have to travel back and collect your belongings. Well, one time, my gravestone marker did not appear. All most stuff was gone, and I had some expensive equipment. Outside of that one bug, and one time the game crashed while going from one server to another, I have yet to encounter another bug.
I would love to get a server going with the G&G community!
I’ve watched some of the combat, and I think what will make me want to play it most is when they update with dual wielding. Give me dual wielding, and I’m a happy DPSer. Grinding doesn’t bother me. I could grind in my sleep with one hand.
Right now, I’m going to wait on it. As I said, I don’t do well in a survival game by myself. I get bored and frustrated having to wander alone. Conan Exiles was a big mistake on my own, and it has soured me a little on this stuff. So I’m hesitant to pull the trigger.
Dual wielding would be a cool skill! They already have the ability to dual wield in game, granted its with a torch and sword, so it wouldn’t take much to implement true dual wielding. I love being the archer in my group! I understand your hesitation. No Man Sky ruined the “multiplayer” mining/grinding/survival experience for me, so now I required a multitude of reviews before pulling a trigger. After reading that they had already sold 2 million copies within a few weeks (now 4 million within a month I believe), stellar reviews, and watched some gameplay, I figured I’d give them a chance. I’m usually not a fan of early access, but this one is special. Also believe my $20 will go to help the developers.

Dude…Don’t get me started on No Man’s Sky. I was one of the rubes who got duped at the launch for PS4.
I had been back from my disastrous move to China for a couple of months, still recuperating from a freaking ChiCom virus that nearly killed me and a nearly broken foot, and I thought I had found a game that was going to let me get lost for a while in a vast uncharted universe. Since I didn’t have a computer that could handle MMOs at the time, this was going to be a coop saving grace for me…or so I thought.
After a week of grinding and playing, I began to realize I was the only freaking person in the game, and that I had been lied to! Then I found out the entire premise of the game was a fucking simulation, and in the entire galaxy there were only those three stupid races!
Good god damned I was angry!
Needless to say a trade in happened quickly, and it wasn’t long before I was saved my the Mass Effect Trilogy.
Well then, tell us how you really feel! lol! I was there on day one for PC (preordered… never again), same with my roommate at the time. After about the first 5 hours of being in awe, reality started to set in, and the rage built up. Needless to say, we’ve been hurt by games with high expectations, but then being delivered very low standards and misleading information (or lying). Love me some ME! I actually still play ME3 for multiplayer. Still fun!
I heard many good things about this Valheim game. And I watched people play and yeah, it looks pretty decent. Must be fun to play it with friends. Too bad I’m a solo player lol.
So yeah, those “problems” you guys say you had with no man sky, wouldn’t be a problem for me, I don’t mind being alone in a universe. xD (I still didn’t play No Man Sky thou, but it’s on my “huge” list for future games).
I just wish Starfield doesn’t suck please… And I also can’t wait for Beyond Good & Evil 2 as well!
No Man’s Sky is a different game today compared to what it was at launch. They took a really crappy game and made it pretty fun (if you like that type of game.)
I also heard that halfway through development, when Sony bought it, they were told they suddenly have to support all the consoles AND still have the same release date. It would explain the terrible initial game.
On a side note, NMS would be totally cancelled if it came out today. I mean, it has man
in the name, and you can only play a male character.
So racist.
Valheim? Valheim? Did someone say co-op?
*actually reads thread*
Don’t forget the recent bug where birds are apparently stealing your boats. >.> I use to be an ARK player and there are a lot of things I’m liking Valheim over Ark – which I was already starting to abandon, but Valheim just finished that for me. If anyone starts a server or wants to get together for a group session please notify me.
I just started playing myself. I also spun up a dedicated server if anyone wants to join:
Name: Its Game Time
World name: ItsGameTime
Password: It’s ddaycobra’s first name, ie, guy who runs Geeks & Gamers (in case a stray sjw comes here :D )
Does Geeks & Gamers have a discord? If not, I made a quick one here: https://discord.gg/dAka8UwEWV
So far I died 4 times. 3 times from trees falling and rolling down a hill to hit me, and 1 time from falling off my house.
Good game.
Those trees man… :D
Geeks and Gamers does have a discord and a gaming channel, I grabbed the link from G+G’s Youtube video: https://discord.com/invite/r3tDNCx. I’ll be trying to join your Valheim server today and I’ll be on the G+G channel. What’s your discord handle @horvay ?
It seems one of my guildies has started playing. I’ll probably give it a try later this week. If we really get into it, I’ll broach the topic of opening up our server to others who might want to play since we would doing it as our guild Twin Suns…which is always open to recruitment now and for future games…oh Blue Protocal I await thee.
Hmmm, I couldn’t see your dedicated server horvay. Maybe post the IP as well so we can join via IP?
