😂 Guess Green Hills Zone’s always stuck in people’s heads ‘case it must be pretty rare now with everyone used to saving shit that somene gets psta it, congrats on being one of those few, i’ve only ever got past Green Hills once
Few of my favourite tracks of Sparkstar (RKA2):
Ancient Ruins
Desert Pyramids
Gedol Airship
Assault of Gedol Castle
First and last tracks I still imagine as Sparkster’s theme: It’s a suitably heroic piece of music for the character.
Sonic 2 tracks, right in the childhood:
Mystic Cave Zone
Death Gauntlet Zone
Hill Top Zone
Tails is Useless Zone
Bonus: Posted in the other thread, but it’s too much of a classic.
Other people: Is this Green Hill Zone?
Sonic fans: Don’t talk to me or my son ever again.
The Didact is the Darth Vader of video games.
If this is a hill, I choose to die on it.
Bonus: Nemesis, a secondary theme for the character.
Another one of my MegaDrive favourites – Ristar, a seriously overlooked gem from Sonic Team. This soundtrack is perfection itself.
Stage 1-1: Ristar the Shooting Star
Stage 4-1: Planet Sonata – A seriously brilliant stroke in level design, using the music to build towards a delightful crescendo.
Stage 5-1: Planet Freon
The end stage music is great, too.
Boss theme
End Stage Clear
Final Boss theme: Kaiser Greedy, the Space Pirate
Some ace 90’s techno vibes from the last levels of Sonic 3D:
Sonic 3D: Gene Gadget Zone
Sonic 3D: Panic Puppet Zone
Be cool, be wild, be groovy! – I thought snowboarding away from an avalanche was the coolest thing ever at ten years old, and it still bloody well is.
“Welcome to Twinkle Park!”
Summerset had some pretty average quests, but I loved the idyllic landscape, coral beaches and exotic flora and fauna. It’s a paradise on Nirn. (Plus I liked the theme of conflict of the Altmer regularly defending their homeland from raiding Moarmer and Sea Sload).
[Insert obligatory “Have you heard of the High Elves?” Oblivion reference]
Sonic CD’s Japanese soundtrack is some of the greatest out of the whole series:
Toot Toot Sonic Warrior (Opening theme)
Stardust Speedway
Metallic Madness
Cosmic Eternity (Ending theme)
Also, special mention to the US soundtrack, too. I still prefer the Jap version, but this US version of Stardust Speedway sounds like something straight out of an American 90’s sci-fi flick:
Sonic 3 Music:
Hydrocity Zone
Carnival Night Zone – DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-CIRCUS-AFRO
(Yeah, I got the time out on the barrel like everyone else).
Boss theme
Final Boss theme – Oh, god… the arms… get them away…
Sonic & Knuckles Music:
Lava Reef Zone
Death Egg Zone – A challenging zone that mind-fucks with you the whole way through. Sonic Team went all out in the level design here.
Doomsday Zone – The first time you had Super Sonic exclusive boss. Unforgettable.
Also, forgot the Sonic 3 credits music.
There is long-standing supposition going around the Sonic fandom that Michael Jackson helped create the music for Sonic 3, but Sonic Team have neither confirmed nor denied it. But I’m inclined to believe it, given how much some tracks resemble Jacko’s musical style (the credits theme matches “Stranger in Moscow” beat for beat).
While Sonic Team did not make a full Sonic game for the Saturn, NiGHTS into Dreams… was a, well, dream delight to play. One of the best games to be made for the system and a cult classic among the Sonic/SEGA fandom.
Gate of Your Dream (Menu theme)
Message from Nightopia (Main theme)
Boss theme: vs. Jackle – Christ, this guy was unpredictable. To this day, he can either take five minutes or five hours to beat (the fact that he bursts into laughter every time he hits you doesn’t help).
Boss theme: vs. Reala – One of the best “dark version of the hero” battle themes.
