Growing Wings – Most final level themes tend to be dark, but this was filled with hope. It really matches the uplifting spirit of the game, in spite of the dark premise of the world being threatened in being engulfed by nightmares.
Final boss theme: Wizeman the Wicked
Peaceful Moment (Boss defeated)
Dreams Dreams (end credits)
Man, the rate I’m going, this may as be my personal blog or something…
More Sonic Adventure Soundtracks:
Twinkle Circuit – Love how Sonic’s theme kicks in half-way through.
Tikal’s theme
Dr. Robotnik theme
Final Egg, Stage 2 – This level was hard as nails for me at ten years old, but I still managed to beat it. It’s pretty easy for me now, though.
UP AND DOWN AND ALL AROUND
Hot Shelter
Casinopolis – Garbage Chute – If you’re gonna get thrown in the trash after the losing the slot machines, may as well do it while groovin’
Twinkle Park, Stage 2
Sonic Adventure 2 had some of the best music of the whole series, and I loved how they had a different genre of music for each character. Sonic’s stages have classic rock and roll going on, emphasizing his free and rebellious spirit:
Shadow’s levels, which have a pretty heavy hard rock/techno vibe to them, reflecting his dark nature:
Radical Highway
White Jungle
Sky Rail
Final Chase
Man, I remember all the divisiveness among the fandom when Sonic Heroes came out: People were expecting Sonic Adventure 3 and got something quite different instead. But despite its frustrating shortcomings (hello, bottomless pits of death), Sonic Heroes could still be an enjoyable platformer:
Power Plant
Casino Park
Rail Canyon
Hang Castle – Legend has it Michael Jackson’s ghost might sometimes haunt Sonic games.
What I’m Made Of (Final boss theme) – This song brings out my 15 year old self again (because all men are still boys at heart).
City Escape might be my single favorite video game song of all time lol. I don’t think I can get a single workout in without playing that song at least once.
Japanese soundtrack beats the U.S. one overall, but I think the U.S. version easily has the better intro (Sonic Boom).
The rather controversial Shadow the Hedgehog game.
Not my favorite, but I liked it, warts and all.
I Am All Of Me – I still listen to this unironically.
The much maligned Sonic 06.
I admit, even this game tested my patience as a Sonic fan. But I endured it. All of it. I could even kinda respect what Sonic Team were trying to achieve with this game, it just needed at least another year or two of development, and then it might’ve been decent, but alas.
Even so, the music is still great.
His World (E3 version) – Oh, man, who else remembers seeing that trailer all those years ago and getting kinda hyped?
All Hero Shadow (Crush 40) – Actually, Shadow’s story was one of the redeeming factors of the game. It’s a shame Shadow hasn’t got a story arc to himself since then.
Dreams of an Absolution – Silver initially got a lot flak when his design was revealed (he does look kinda silly), but his good-natured personality won people over.
Mephiles the Dark (Boss theme) – OH FOR GRIFE’S SAKE SEGA HE’S JUST SHADOW BUT MADE OUT OF CRYSTALS I MEAN REALLY oh but this is a cool theme, tho
Theme of Dr. Eggman – Despite the poor reception of the game itself, I’m glad Sonic Team recognized how good this leitmotif was to keep as Eggman’s main theme for succeeding games.
Solaris Phase 1
Solaris Phase 2
1991 – Save the cute little animals from the mean, fat man.
2006 – Three hedgehogs go Super Saiyan to defeat a literal God to prevent the dimensional collapse of the universe.
…Yes, really.
I remember the first time I countered a giant fucking monster out of nowhere and this song kicked in I crapped my pants, but I’m still not sure was it because of fear or pure hype
