Megaman 2
Probably my favorite is “Secret Weapons Over Normandy” by Michael Giacchino. It sounds so much like a John Williams score that I would think that Williams had composed it if I didn’t know better.
His “Medal of Honor” is excellent as well.
The album “Symphonic Fantasies” is another great one. It contains symphonies based on various video game themes. These are my favorite two tracks from it:
The first Mass Effect game. Such a great soundtrack.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2
Resident Evil 2 (original)
Ecco the Dolphin (Sega CD….yep I have one of those still)
There are a lot of games soundtracks I enjoy most of which have been mentioned in this thread but the earliest soundtrack I liked was from Afterburner.
Castlevania. Just the entire series. Lots of classic style rock that feels right at home with some of the best bands.

No one is talking about the Frostpunk soundtrack? I guess its a smaller game by a smaller studio so its not as known.
Super Metroid, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Lufia 2, All 3 Mass Effects. No, that’s not a typo. There are only 3 Mass Effect games.
I think the Silent Hill games had amazing soundtracks.
Tmnt 4 turtles in time
Sunset riders
Sonic the hedgehog
Halo ce
Halo 2
Halo 3
Assassins creed 2
There is an album titled “Hero Of Time (Music from The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time)” available on iTunes. It’s a compilation album featuring lesser known composers like Eric Buchholz and Wayne Strange. Also, I believe Sam Dillard is worth looking into as well. He composed “Metroid Cinematica” and “Zelda Cinematica: A Symphonic Tribute.”
Granted these are more independent works but they’re some of the best compilations I’ve ever heard, so I’d recommend giving them a listen.
Akira Yamaoka is amazing.
Super Mario Bros 1984 NES Soundtracks
There are a number of games I could point to, but since most of them have already been mentioned I’ll go with Alan Wake and Control. Most of the music is done by Poets of the Fall who I love listening to.
