With the recent releases of Shenmue III and Streets of Rage 4, I got to thinking, what Sega franchise should return next? There’s many to pick from, but my choice is easy: Virtua Fighter.
We haven’t seen a VF game since VF5’s release in 2007. It’s time for Virtua Fighter 6! I want to see Sega enter the fighting game ring once again with a brand new entry in the series.
What Sega franchise do you want to see make a glorious return?
Call me old if you want but i want to see Crazy Taxi & Super Monkey Ball return one day….
Oof, good question. I’m not quite as passionate as I used to be about SEGA, but they still hold a special place in my heart.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a new Ecco the Dolphin game, or Panzer Dragoon. I’d also like to see Sonic Team create sequels to IP’s they’ve left behind, like Ristar, NiGHTS or even Burning Rangers (a hidden gem on the Saturn).
Hell yes. Both great franchises from the Dreamcast era. I’d honestly even be cool with just a Dreamcast collection on modern consoles.
All great picks. The Saturn era has gone tragically underrepresented in recent collections and re-releases.
Not necessarily any game in particular, but Sega Sports. I know they broke off and became 2K, but they made some of the best sports games back in the day, like Virtua Tennis and Tennis 2K2. NFL 2K was great too, and they would go on to make one of the best football games ever made, NFL 2K5. So while EA wouldn’t make games on the Dreamcast, Sega managed just fine. Would love to see them delve back into sports again. They won’t be able to use the NFL or NCAA license anymore, which is unfortunate. Though the NCAA may ease up as long as they don’t use player likenesses.

That’s a great pick. SEGA dominated the sports genre during the Genesis and Dreamcast eras. I think at least bringing back Virtua Tennis should be a no-brainer.
Oh hell yeah. We need those weirdos back.
Virtua Tennis 2 is a blast too, and I’m not that big of a Tennis fan. Gameplay is super solid for the time.
It’s amazing how underrepresented the tennis genre has been in recent years, outside of Mario Tennis. Seems like it’s a pretty ideal time for SEGA to bring it back.
