My first anime was Astro Boy(1980), Dragonball Z, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing,Outlaw Star.
My first animes were Naruto, One Piece, and Yu-Gi-Oh. Just like Andrew, I watched Toonami on Cartoon Network in order to watch these shows every Saturday. I was sad when it went off the air. However, I am glad that they returned a couple of years ago. The anime that I watch today currently are Black Clover, My Hero Academia, and Bleach on Crunchyroll. If you have the time then I recommend watching them.
Pokemon, back when there were only 150 of them!
My introduction was the latter 1970s with Battle of the Planets. Started watching more in the mid-90s when I opened a hobby shop and manga/anime was starting to take off. After I closed my shop in 2005, I really started getting more into it through Netflix. I still remember the shock that hit me when I watched Elfin Lied after watching 3 straight comedy anime series in a row. I forgot it was a serious series, and it even started off with some humor. Then the poor secretary got her head ripped off, and I was like WTF! :)
Back in the late 80s/ early 90s there was a Dragon Quest/Warrior anime that used to air on TV at like 6am on Saturday morning. I used to wake up early just to watch it as I loved Dragon Warrior on NES. It was my first exposure to anime and Akira Toriyama…then I found Dragon Ball Z and that was that…anime fan for life!
My first anime was Dragon Ball (when Goku was a kid).
for me it was a lot of stuff from the 1980s, Robotech, Voltron, Transformers to name some from 1984
Unknowingly it was Heidi dubbed into my mother tongue, as an older kid Beyblade and Medabots in English, I kinda missed Pokemon, DB, and Yugioh because my parents were unsure about them (they weren’t very controlling), but I decided to avoid it just in case because I heard bad things. When I was older I had a bad perception of most anime and didn’t touch any for a long time until a classmate in my Matric year (senior year in the US) recommended some to me, her explanations still made them seem weird lol, but I finally gave 1 a shot after playing some Warcraft III mods that had anime characters that I liked, I started first with Naruto, which is why it has a soft spot in my heart. After that Bleach, then One Piece, and kinda escalated from there, till now I’ve watched over 150+ series/moves and read some Manga. So, I was kinda late to the game, but retroactively realized that anime was formative in my early years, and that the hoopla around Pokemon, Yugioh, or DB was dumb.
Dragon Ball Z. My cousins got a VHS of one of the episodes where Goku was fighting Cell in the Cell Tournament. Damn!!! That was nice.
When I was really little Dragonball used to play on the weekends. I remember watching the pilaf arc and being absolutely enthralled by it. When DBZ got popular when I was older it was really nice for me because I knew Goku from when I was a kid and got to fill in all my friends about his Dragonball adventures.
I completely forgot about Voltron…that would be my first actually..I watched that all the time too. I never associate it with anime though for some reason.
Started watching Dragonball Z back when it was on Toonami. Would watch and tape the episodes on my VHS recorder when I got home from school. Still have the recorded tapes, but it wasn’t until I got introduced to Trigun when it was airing on Toonami after that I was hooked into the world of anime and the rest is history.
Outlaw Star, HELL YEAH!!
My first anime was Ranma 1/2 and it’s also my first manga series I read. Plus all of the Toonami/WB Kid’s/Anime Unleashed in 90’s/00’s.
