I was thinking about this. I am not taking sides on anything but I realized this in my own mind.
Situation 1) You see a man hitting a woman… What’s your first thought?
Mine would be holy crap I have to make that stop because that dude is hurting that woman.
Situation 2) You see a woman hitting a man.. What’s your first thought?
Mine is, I wonder what he did.
.
Why is that?
The reason I am posing this is because I think most anyone would think the same thing as I did. I believe this shows that humans innately know the differences between men and women physically AND emotionally and one cannot be the other.
Just found this interesting.
Well assuming that the parties are strangers to me — I’ll admit that I used to think that because my generation was taught that it was the job of a man to protect a woman and that no matter what you never hit a woman because a “real man” can take it (i.e. abuse from a woman).
And now?
It doesn’t matter who hit first, my first thought is that I’m not getting in the middle of a stranger’s fight because I don’t know what’s the story behind the altercation. That’s not to say I wouldn’t “get involved”…for example I may call the police if things are escalating.
But no way am I intervening physically. There are too many stories of people who tried to play the hero and ended up getting maimed, arrested or killed and I’d prefer not to be a statistic.
Interesting thoughts. I agree to a large degree and of course the law itself would think of it more the way you did. In the eyes of the law those situations are somewhat equal.
But I too was taught it was the job of a man to protect women and children. Regardless of the dingdongs out there saying there is no gender I believe it to be true. I don’t at all considerate it a dated thought process but a reality of nature.
However, I can promise you if a “strong independent woman” was getting beat and another man was there she would expect physical intervention. Why? Because the reality is everyone knows there are differences and why they are.
It’s the same thing with this: A male teacher sleeps with a 17yr old student, outcry and upset. A female teacher sleeps with a 17yr old student, shoulders shrug.
I was hit by my ex wife a few times (part of why she is ex). Once was in public. I never once hit back, I did restrain her arms once, but that was to protect myself. Anyone would agree with what I did. I still did not hit her back though.
The fact is, what is wrong, is wrong. Male or Female should not matter. Neither person in a relationship should be hitting. Ever.

Very true and I agree with that 100%.
I think the same goes for an adult sleeping with a teenager. Male or female it is an adult taking advantage of a kid.
