Was not accusing nor implying anything at all. Maybe I’m the one being sneaky?
“In The End” by Linkin Park absolutely belongs in the era because, to me, it might be the most nihilistic song ever written.
Both late 90s songs that had the term “lit.” There was a band called Lit, and All Lit Up Again. It’s almost become a normal slang word these days. Again, may not have mentioned this before, but I actually went back to classical, jazz, baroque and other instrumental music. It was grunge and gangsta rap that turned me off of the music industry much the same way Tarantino and Weinstein turned me off entertainment. I stepped away for at least a decade, but really enjoyed people like Gary and Jeremy ripping on Hollywood. I have no desire to revisit this slacker era nor do I endorse any of it.

It turns out that this band was the opener for Linkin Park when they toured. The song is horrible, but one of the best live performances I’ve seen from a band in terms of athleticism. The jumping and kicks and then, the stage dive and the crowd-surfing. A fan gets on stage and dances with a guitar player and the other guy looks worried. Too much energy for me now, but as a kid, I always like David Lee Roth and Steven Tyler for their kicks and flips. They were like cartoon characters to me.

This was supposed to be a song of peace and reconciliation between capitalism and communism after the breakup of the Soviet Union. They wanted peace between Germany and Russia.
Gossip is that this song was written by the CIA! It’s like a Coke jingle to peace for the suckers. All that goodwill lost due to NATO aggression and expansion. It is funny that the CIA may have written this song as like a signal that the Cold War was over.
After the big 80’s and hair metal, it really seemed like songs like this and Blaze of Glory by Bon Jovi were the last of the good rock. Seattle Grunge ruined the rock scene, in my opinion only. Not sure how much more I’ll have to say about it.
1990. Might as well post it. This was just before the angst, the self-loathing and the emo. Take a good look at the Badass Bard Bon Jovi and what it was like before the music industry tried to turn your culture into sissies.
