Today, MAX released a trailer for The Penguin, a spin-off of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Colin Farrell returns to the titular role in his own series set in the seedy underworld of an already grimy Gotham City, with Cristin Millioti, Clancy Brown, Mark Strong, and Michael Kelly in supporting roles. The Penguin will premiere on MAX in September. Check out the trailer here:
I didn’t love The Batman like most people did; I thought it was okay, and then I honestly forgot about it. Colin Farrell is an incredible actor, and I don’t think he was bad as the Penguin, but I found the movie dull and overstuffed. I think the series has a lot of potential, especially since they are leaning into the gritty nature that The Batman showcased, which I think was the best part of that movie. My only gripe is that no one asked for this and I don’t know if it will have that much relevance, so I suspect it will just fade away.
Agree on all points. The thing is, JOKER did well as a movie.
It’s interesting that the Rogues may get their own protagonist storylines. Just kind of a comic book skin on the gangster movie genre.
Would be funny if better gangster cinema is made from comic book villians than Martin Scorsese films. Would be the ultimate clap-back.
