Today, Netflix released a trailer for Wendell and Wild, the next feature from director Henry Selick. Selick is known for directing stop-motion animated films like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. Judging by the trailer, Wendell and Wild will fit right in among his work. Wendell and Wild is based on Selick’s book of the same name. The film stars Jordan Peele (who is also co-writer), Keegan-Michael Key, Angela Bassett, Lyric Ross, James Hong, and Ving Rhames. Selick also wrote original songs for the film, which hits Netflix on October 28th. Check out the trailer here:
Wow! How have I not heard of this? I love everything about this film in concept. Henry Selick is a great and underrated director; many of his movies being mistaken for Tim Burton’s work. I like Jordan Peele a lot, and I’m interested in seeing his work in an animated film, aside from Toy Story 4, in which he only acted. The animation looks great, of course; stop-motion is a wonderful art form and perfectly captures the mood of Halloween. I also admire that the movie isn’t afraid to talk about demons and Hell. I’m aware that movies have broached those topics before, but it’s brave for an animated film that will presumably be aimed at families. I can’t wait to see Wendell and Wild, and it comes out just in time for Halloween parties.
