Wolfman’s Got Nards Trailer Rises From the Grave

The military had better dig out that business card because there’s a documentary about The Monster Squad on the horizon. Titled Wolfman’s Got Nards (as if it could have been called anything else) and directed by Andre Gower – who played Monster Squad leader Sean – the documentary looks at the cult following the horror-comedy has developed since its unsuccessful release in 1987. There are interviews with The Monster Squad’s director, Fred Dekker, and Dekker’s co-writer, Hollywood legend Shane Black, as well as with the cast and crew, and other filmmakers who have been influenced by the movie. Gower also talks with fans – particularly those who attended a 30th anniversary screening of the film at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas – about why they love The Monster Squad so much. Wolfman’s Got Nards will be available on VOD and Blu-Ray on October 27th, just in time for Halloween. Check out the Wolfman’s Got Nards trailer below:

I’d forgotten Wolfman’s Got Nards was being made, but there’s no better way to get into the Halloween spirit (albeit a couple of days early) than by celebrating a great horror movie. If you haven’t seen it, The Monster Squad is about a group of pre-teen horror fanatics who have to utilize their monster knowledge to fight Dracula, who’s risen again to take over the world with Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, the Mummy, and the Gill-Man (so called because the name “the Creature From the Black Lagoon” was copyrighted) as his minions; Virginia talked about the movie in-depth a couple of Halloweens ago. Wolfman’s Got Nards appears to be a celebration of the love fans have for a film most of us had to discover on our own; I love hearing other people talk about finding it similarly to how I did, on a rack in Palmer Video when I was eight years old. There’s something special about seeing a movie that way, and you can feel the passion these people have for The Monster Squad in the clips of the anniversary screening, or the girl who made what looks like some kind of makeshift magazine dedicated to Rudy, the oldest of the Squad who’d rather ogle hot girls than talk about vampires and werewolves. I look forward to hearing from Fred Dekker and Shane Black, both in reminiscence of the production and to see their reactions to the slow resurrection of their movie as a cult classic. Wolfman’s Got Nards is one I’ll buy upon release.
