The Best There is at What He Does and the Merc with a Mouth are squaring off, and we’ve got a preview of the action. A few days ago, Twitter user @mcufightclub posted a video taken on the set of Deadpool 3 that shows Deadpool and Wolverine fighting in that desert area from which the first pics of them came. This scene was filmed before the actors’ strike, which @mcufightclub makes clear, lest the mutants have to team up to fight scores of strikers shouting, “Scabs!” (Green Arrow universe-crossing team-up?) Deadpool 3 is currently set to arrive in theaters on May 3, 2024, but the actors’ strike may delay it if it goes on long enough. You can see the video below:

Seeing that bit of filming has me looking forward to Deadpool 3 even more. I love the way Logan paces around at first, staring Wade down before popping his claws and charging. And Wade switches from guns to katana at different points in the fight. These two both have a powerful healing factor, meaning they can cut each other up as much as they want without ending the conflict. It’s interesting to see how scenes like this are filmed; for instance, Hugh Jackman begins without any prosthetics, mimicking the unleashing of Wolverine’s claws, presumably because they’ll be inserted digitally, as they’ve always been. During the action, he has a set of claws attached to his glove as he swipes at Ryan Reynolds, but he throws them away mid-fight. The sense I get is that this is when Wolverine has his claws buried in Deadpool, so again, they’ll switch to digital effects. It’s very cool, and it’s even cooler because Wolverine is wearing a suit much closer to the one from the comics. My fingers are crossed that this one is as great as we all need it to be.
