Get ready to laugh at the living dead again, as Sony has released the Zombieland 2: Double Tap trailer. The sequel to the ten-year-old horror/action/comedy Zombieland, Zombieland 2: Double Tap finds the survivors of the zombie apocalypse continuing to traverse the depopulated United States, fighting more of the undead and meeting new people. Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin all reprise their roles from the original and are joined by Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch, and Luke Wilson. Ruben Fleisher returns to direct, along with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (of the Deadpool movies), who are joined by Dave Callaham. The film opens on October 11, 2019. That looks like fun. I enjoyed Zombieland, much to my surprise (I don’t typically like zombie movies), although I never felt the need to watch it again. The Zombieland 2: Double Tap trailer suggests that the sequel will be more of the same. The focus is mostly on the characters hanging out and making jokes, which is fine with me; that was the best part of the first one, so the follow-up would do well to keep it up. Woody Harrelson has some great lines (“I have nothing against hippies; I just wanna beat the shit out of ‘em.”), and it’s worth another movie just to see more of Tallahassee, who has one of the best hero names in all of fiction. The gag about Luke Wilson and the guy from the Verizon commercials having the same personalities as Woody and Jesse Eisenberg could go either way; maybe it’ll be funny, but I could see it wearing thin quickly, and to be honest, it didn’t make me laugh in the trailer. I like the idea of them going to the White House, but I hope they’re able to resist making Trump jokes; if anything should just be fun, it’s a Zombieland movie.
