Disney Losing Faith in Rey??

When one thinks of the Disney theme parks, discounted and/or cheap merchandise doesn’t usually enter one’s mind. When you’re headed to one of their theme parks, you know you’re going to be forking over some serious cash for food, hotels, drinks, and especially souvenirs.

So imagine our surprise when we visited Hollywood Studios today and saw that Rey’s souvenir lightsaber was roughly $6 cheaper than those of other Star Wars characters.

Yes, you read that right; the queen of the new Star Wars trilogy has discounted merchandise. I’ll give you all a moment to practice your shocked faces.

Here are the pictures to prove it:

As you can see, Luke, Mace Windu, and Anakin’s lightsabers are priced at $44.99, while Rey’s is only $39.99. (Even though, arguably, hers appears to be more intricate in detail.) Rey’s also has a specific sticker that shows her price, whereas the others are the traditional stickers with no price since the price is on the stand they’re slotted in.

Now, I don’t know about you, dear reader, but from my experience, Disney only discounts things when:

A) They’re having a legitimate sale. (All hail the twice upon a year sale!)

or

B) The merchandise in question is outdated, and they are trying to get rid of stock. (For example: year-specific, Christmas, and Halloween merchandise.)

Very rarely do you see something like this happen, but when it does, at least in my experience, it means the merchandise isn’t selling very well. Quite the bummer for Disney, who’s gone through a lot of trouble to make Rey the “it” girl of Star Wars. Is Disney starting to lose faith in their prize? Or is this merely a way for them to get rid of some old merchandise and make way for something new? Only time will tell!
