Lord of the Rings Extended Editions Coming to Theaters

Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy is returning to theaters in its extended format. This release will be the 2020 remaster Jackson did for their 4K Ultra HD debut. Fathom Events is distributing the screenings of the J.R.R. Tolkien adaptations, which will be held at Cinemark, AMC, and Regal theaters from June 8 to June 10.  The Fellowship of the Ring will screen on June 8, The Two Towers on June 9, and The Return of the King on June 10. This is the first time the remastered versions of the films will be shown in cinemas. You can buy tickets for the Lord of the Rings extended edition screenings at Fathom Events.

The trilogy’s re-release is just the latest announced Lord of the Rings event for 2024. An animated Lord of the Rings film, The War of the Rohirrim, also comes out this year on December 13. The War of the Rohirrim is directed by Kenji Kamiyama and features Miranda Otto reprising the role of Éowyn, with Brian Cox starring as Helm Hammerhand, King of Rohan 250 years in the past. The second season of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is expected to stream later this year as well, though no concrete release date has been set.
